EU Commission outlines latest plan to create encryption backdoor

The European Commission has released its ProtectEU plan, outlining strategies to guarantee the security of its citizens. The plan includes proposals for a "Technology Roadmap on encryption" that, despite concerns about privacy and cybersecurity, would set out "the legal and practical measures it proposes to take to ensure lawful and effective access to data." 

The Commission intends to develop a roadmap for law enforcement data access in 2025 and its technology roadmap by 2026.  

The Commission acknowledges the need to balance security with privacy and cybersecurity. They highlight the necessity of creating a technical roadmap to address these concerns, arguing that current limitations hinder their ability to operate effectively in the digital realm.
