EU Commission launches cloud-computing market investigations under DMA

The European Commission has opened three market investigations into cloud-computing services under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Two of the investigations will assess whether Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure should be designated as gatekeepers under the DMA, despite not currently meeting official thresholds. The third investigation will assess whether the DMA is robust enough to effectively tackle practices that may limit competitiveness and fairness within the cloud computing sector across the EU.

In related news, the General Court of the EU Court of Justice has rejected Amazon's request to overturn a decision made by the Commission, which designated the company as a very large online platform (VLOP) under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
