EU Commission consults on draft law for regulatory sandboxes under AI Act

02/12/2025 | European Commission

The European Commission has launched a consultation seeking feedback on draft legislation to establish an AI regulatory sandbox under the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). The sandboxes, intended to foster AI innovation and compliance, will allow developers and providers of AI systems to develop, train, validate, and test their innovative technologies for a limited time under regulatory supervision. This testing will take place within a controlled framework set up by a competent authority and may occur in real-world conditions where appropriate. The Commission plans to adopt an implementing act that standardises the rules for establishing and operating these regulatory sandboxes.

The consultation closes on 6 January 2026.
