AI Act and ePrivacy Directive included in EU digital simplification consultation

16/09/2025 | European Commission

The European Commission plans to simplify digital regulations for businesses will include the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). It has launched a call for evidence aimed at streamlining digital rules across several areas, focusing on making it easier to do business in the EU without compromising high standards of online fairness and safety. The initiative also aims to address the complexity and fragmentation in the application of rules at the national level.

In addition to clarifying aspects of the AI Act, the omnibus proposal will target updates to rules on third-party cookies and tracking under the ePrivacy Directive, along with the application of the European data strategy to small and medium-sized businesses. It also covers cybersecurity incident reporting and the European Digital Identity Framework. The public consultation closes on 14 October, while the proposal for digital simplification is expected to be finalised in December.
