US Ambassador to EU calls for closer cooperation on tech issues

08/10/2025 | EURACTIV

Andrew Puzder, US Ambassador to the EU, has suggested that there could be a potential for transatlantic cooperation on several technology-related issues, including the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI). In an interview, the Ambassador stated that the EU should work with the US to establish unified AI regulations, given America's leadership in the field.

While the US administration has been critical of EU digital regulations, labelling the Digital Services Act (DSA) as censorship and European digital taxes as levies on US companies, Mr Puzder pointed to areas of regulatory overlap. He highlighted the European Commission's recent near-€3 billion fine on Google for competition breaches in its advertising business, noting that the US Department of Justice is pursuing a similar case. Mr Puzder suggested such shared regulatory focus could serve as a basis for further collaboration.
