Trust: ad transparency and dark patterns targets for next EU Commission

Speaking to EURACTIV, European Commissioner for justice and consumer protection, Didier Reynders said the Commission might look to address transparency in the online advertising space, dark patterns and cookie fatigue in its next mandate. Elections for the next Commission will take place in 2024, so now is the time to carry out studies and consultations in order to inform the agenda. Reynders said: "The first problem we want to address is transparency. If you want to maintain the consumers' trust, it's very important that the consumers understand why they see so many ads."
