MEPs support infringement procedure against Ireland

The European Parliament has voted in favour of a resolution, which calls on the European Commission to open an infringement procedure against Ireland for failing to enforce the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sufficiently. In the judicial ruling on the invalidated the EU-US Privacy Shield, MEPs expressed their disappointment that the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) chose to bring a legal proceeding to court rather than exercising powers already in its possession.
