LIBE Committee backs Bruno Gencarelli as next EDPS

Following the evaluation of four candidates to become the next European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) has endorsed Bruno Gencarelli for a five-year term. The hearings, which took place on 16 January had previously been rescheduled from November and included current EDPS Wojciech Wiewiórowsk along with two other candidates. The EU Council will vote on Friday and is expected to favour Wiewiórowsk.
