EU not naive about the UK's data plans

Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders has said that the European Commission is "not naive" about the UK's future data protection ambitions. Should the UK diverge too far from EU standards, the Commission would be prepared to suspend transfers of personal data to the country. This follows comments from the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden, who said the UK plans to reform data protection law now it has left the European Union. Elsewhere, the Open Rights Group warned that Europe must not grant the UK adequacy with its immigration exemption as it is.
