EU lawmakers reach e-Evidence regulation agreement

The Council of the European Union, the European Parliament and the European Commission have reached an agreement on the e-Evidence regulation. The regulation aims to facilitate cross-border criminal investigations and implements a mechanism for law enforcement agencies to obtain electronic evidence stored within another EU member state. It also includes the European Preservation Order, in which a judge could order a service provider to preserve data related to a suspect for access at a later date. The next step is ratifying the regulation by lawmakers and EU governments.
