EU Commission misses second deadline to publish high-risk AI system guidance
24/02/2026 | EURACTIV
The European Commission has confirmed it will miss a second, revised deadline to publish guidance on how operators of high-risk artificial intelligence (AI) systems can meet the requirements of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). Originally set for release on 2 February 2026, the delayed guidance is intended to help organisations determine what constitutes a high-risk AI application under Article 6 of the Act.
The EURACTIV article notes that the Commission may be under less pressure to release the guidance due to the proposed Digital Omnibus package, which would push back the implementation of high-risk AI rules, currently scheduled for August, by more than a year. Both the European Parliament and the Council reportedly support this revised timeline.
