EDPS publishes results of DPIA survey of EU institutions

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has published the results of its 2024 survey on how EU institutions are conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). The results indicate that while more DPIAs have been finalised since the 2020 survey, the EDPS has received fewer prior consultations than expected. Since late 2018, the EDPS has been consulted on fewer than 40 DPIAs, which is a surprisingly low number given the rate of change in the data processing landscape, particularly considering the rising use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
