EDPB publishes report on global data protection enforcement
02/02/2026 | EDPB
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has published a report detailing international enforcement cooperation between EEA authorities and countries with EU adequacy status. Developed through the Support Pool of Experts programme and authored by Dr Helena Kastlova, the study evaluates existing legal and non-binding instruments for managing cross-border data protection.
The analysis also explores whether successful methodologies from competition and consumer protection law can be adapted to strengthen data enforcement. It identifies persistent challenges that hinder robust international cooperation while providing forward-looking recommendations to improve regulatory alignment. By comparing current practices with other sectors, the report aims to create a more effective framework for protecting personal data as it flows between the EU and its global partners.
