EDPB publishes feasibility study of a token-based offline modality digital euro

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has published a new report on the technical feasibility of a "token-based offline modality" for the digital euro. The report, requested by the EDPB following requests from both the European Commission and the Eurosystem, focuses on achieving an offline, cash-like, anonymous, and double-spending resistant payment solution. The EDPB endorses this approach to ensure a very high level of data protection and privacy for European citizens using future digital payment methods. The project was launched under the Support Pool of Experts programme following a proposal from the Berlin data protection authority.
