The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has published a blog article celebrating the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the first comprehensive data protection framework to span an entire continent. The EDPB highlights that the GDPR established clear rights for individuals and specific obligations for organisations.
Over the last decade, the EDPB and 31 data protection authorities (DPAs) have collaborated to ensure harmonised and consistent enforcement across Europe. The influence of the GDPR has reached far beyond the continent, serving as a model for similar frameworks globally and fostering international recognition of privacy as a fundamental right.
