Third-party cybersecurity impacts threaten Europe's top 100 banks

New research by SecurityScorecard reveals that 96% of Europe's top 100 financial services companies experienced a security breach via a third-party organisation in the past year, a 25% increase from two years ago. The report also found that 97% suffered a breach through a fourth party (a partner of their partners), up from 84%. In contrast, direct breaches for these organisations decreased slightly from 8% to 7%. The research indicates a significant and growing vulnerability within the supply chain of European financial institutions. On a positive note, 94% of firms with a category A cybersecurity rating experienced no known breaches. The UK reported the highest number of third-party breaches, followed by Germany and Switzerland.
