Biometrics commissioner issues Police Scotland information notice

Following a report by ComputerWeekly at the beginning of the month, Scottish biometrics commissioner Brian Plastow issued Police Scotland an information notice on 22 April 2023 concerning a cloud-based digital evidence system delivered by Axon, hosted on Microsoft Azure servers. The Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) indicates genetic and biometric information that the system will process could potentially be accessed by the US government via the Cloud Act. The information notice gives Police Scotland until mid-June to further clarify their data protection compliance.
