CMA opens investigation into Google's search and advertising practices

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into Google's advertising practices under the new digital markets competition regime. The investigation will focus on Google's dominance in the online search and advertising space and consider its impact on consumers, businesses, advertisers, and competing search engines. 

The investigation will examine whether Google uses its position to prevent the development of new technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), if it prioritises its own services over rivals, and whether it engages in exploitative practices, such as collecting consumer data without consent and using publisher content under unfair terms.
