CMA considers whether to release Google from its Privacy Sandbox commitments

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a consultation about whether to release Google from its previous commitments under its Privacy Sandbox initiative following the company's decision to abandon phasing out third-party cookies in its Chrome browser. The commitments were aimed at ensuring consumers benefited from increased privacy protections and preventing Google from gaining an unfair advantage from its ad-tech services.

In related news, Adexchanger reports that Google has announced a proposal for a Chrome feature called script blocking, which would prevent sites from using fingerprinting to identify people who are trying to browse privately.
