John Edwards to warn tech leaders about data protection issues in AI

Information Commissioner John Edwards is to issue a warning to technology companies, highlighting the importance of integrating data protection into the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Mr Edwards will address tech leaders at the New Scientist Emerging Technologies Summit, emphasising the need to prioritise data protection at every stage of development. It is understood that Edwards will say: "We call it data protection by design and default. Protection for people’s personal information must be baked in from the very start. It shouldn’t just be a tick box exercise, a time-consuming task or an afterthought once the work is done."
