BBW reveals government's secret counter-disinformation policies

Following an investigation, digital rights campaigners Big Brother Watch (BBW) has identified the government's latest secret counter-disinformation activities. BBW had previously shone a light on the activities of the Counter Disinformation Unit (CDU), which was found to be monitoring the lawful and accurate online speech of MPs, academics, journalists, human rights campaigners, and the public when they express disagreement with government policies. Following significant backlash, the government rebranded the unit as the National Security Online Information Team (NSOIT), stressing the national security element to distance itself from the CDU's overreach. However, questions remain regarding the extent of the changes. After a months-long investigation, BBW has obtained and published NSOIT's data protection and compliance policy.
