Woman charged for accessing patient records in NHS Lothian data breach
03/11/2025 | BBC News
A woman has been charged by Police Scotland following a personal data breach at NHS Lothian, in which the medical records of more than 100 patients were inappropriately accessed. The incident was discovered during routine monitoring last month.
NHS Lothian's medical director, Dr Tracey Gillies, confirmed that an immediate investigation was launched once the inappropriate access was detected, and appropriate action has been taken. The health board has since contacted all affected patients and reported the breach to both Police Scotland and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
