Wheelchair supplier to NHS goes into receivership following data breach

22/09/2025 | BBC News

The NHS has apologised following a personal data breach at NRS Healthcare, a company that supplied wheelchairs and other equipment. According to NHS Humber & North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), an unauthorised third party gained access to NRS Healthcare's systems on 1 April 2024, impacting the "personal and special category data" of service users in East Riding and Hull.

NRS Healthcare has since gone into receivership, with its accounts citing the costly cyberattack as a contributing factor. On behalf of itself and the affected councils, the ICB issued a "sincere apology" for the incident, acknowledging it may be distressing for service users and their families. The company reported the breach to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and the NHS advises anyone who believes they are a victim of fraudulent activity to get in touch.
