Criticism towards new surveillance camera code of practice

The proposed new code of practice for defining Police use of surveillance technology, including live facial recognition, has been criticised by the former Surveillance Camera Commissioner Tony Porter saying that the new rules provided the "bare bones" and offered unclear guidance. Meanwhile, Liberty and Big Brother Watch have called for the practice to be ended. A statement from the Home Office said the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice empowered police and maintained public trust.
