Tinder is piloting mandatory facial recognition security features in California, aiming to verify profiles and combat impersonation. New users in the state must now complete a "Face Check" scan, submitting a short video selfie to confirm their face matches profile photos. This biometric verification helps detect bots and multiple account usage, providing a verified badge upon completion. Tinder previously launched Face Check in Colombia and Canada with promising results, including reduced exposure to malicious actors and improved perceptions of authenticity. If the California trial proves successful, the feature could be expanded to other regions.
