Study reveals cyberattacks can lead to a 27% drop in shareholder value

The latest research by Aon indicates that organisations investing in cyber preparedness and resilience are better equipped to mitigate the significant reputational and financial fallout from cyber events. The 2025 Global Cyber Risk Report reveals that significant cyber incidents causing reputational damage can lead to a 27% drop in shareholder value, up from a 9% decline observed in Aon's 2023 research. In addition, the frequency of reported cyber incidents increased by 22%. Malware and ransomware attacks were found to be particularly damaging to reputation, accounting for 60% of all reputation risk events despite comprising only 45% of total cyber incidents.
