The US District Court for the Northern District of California has sided with LinkedIn in its six-year legal battle against hiQ Labs for scraping data from the professional social network. Judge Edward Chen wrote in his decision that the company "relied on LinkedIn for its data primarily by scraping wholly public LinkedIn profiles using automated software." Chen said hiQ Labs also "continuously attempted to circumvent LinkedIn's general technical defences since May 2014" through an effort to "reverse engineer" the company's systems by "simulating human site-access behaviours."
