Greek DPA fines Clearview AI €20M, bans data collection, processing

14/07/2022 | TechCrunch

The Hellenic Data Protection Authority (DPA) has fined Clearview AI €20 million for EU General Data Protection Regulation violations. The Greek DPA has also banned the facial recognition company from collecting and processing the personal data of Greek citizens and ordered Clearview AI to delete any data already collected. The decision dates back to a joint complaint in five countries in May 2021 by Homo Digitalis, NOYB, Privacy International and Hermes Center. The fine sends a "strong signal against intrusive business models of companies that seek to make money through the illegal processing of personal data."
