EU Council publishes encryption recommendations

The Council of the European Union has published recommendations on encryption. It says that it is important to find a balance between public interests and fundamental rights. “We are determined to balance carefully the interests of protecting privacy, fundamental rights and security of communications through encryption,” while at the same time upholding lawful access for criminal justice purposes, according to the council.
